Chamonix Zermatt Haute Route first day

From Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn, our journey will link the two capitals of modern alpinism, at the very heart of the Alps.
This six day journey across the splendors of the high mountains will forever transform you.
The classic itinerary can be modified and will be flexible in order to for variations, depending on the groups’ ability.

Duration :
7 days
Dates 2008
Monday to Saturday, departures every week from 20th March to 24th April.
Group size:
Maximum of 6 guests in order to maximize safety and to give each guest the possibility to benefit from instruction and training.
Skills taught :
During the week, a variety of topics will be discussed including: Glacier travel, risk evaluation on glacial terrain, the use of avalanche beacons and related equipment.
Price :
 

Group of 4 clients: 560€ per person.
Group of 5 clients: 470€ per person.
Group of 6 clients: 400€ per person.
Included in the price is the IFMGA mountain guide fee as well as the use of safety equipment such as harness, avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe.
The IFMGA mountain guide for the 7th day – in case of bad weather – is free of charge.

Supplement costs:

You would have to count between 350€ and 400€ per person for the following:
- Lifts/cable cars
- Accommodation in the refuges, half board (night, dinner, breakfast)
- Lunches (Snacks, purchased before the tour, or lunches in huts)
- Transfer from Zermatt back to Chamonix (most likely by train)
- IFMGA guide’s expenses that will be shared by the group, as listed above

Chamonix Zermatt Ski Touring Haute Route Program
Between Chamonix and  Zermatt
Monday:

Chamonix – Argentière hut

Elevation gain : 200 m - Descent : 3000 m.

Meeting point : At 09 :00 AM in Chamonix for a briefing and to check the equipment.
After 2 nice descent of the Aiguille des Grands Montets, we will practice some avalanche awarness. Then we will go down the Argentiere glacier towards the argentiere hut (2771 m) . Where we will spend the night

Tuesday:

argentière hut – mont-fort hut

Elevation gain : 1200 m - Descent: 2400m

we start touring up to the Col du Chardonnet (3325m), before we ski down to the Saleina glacier. From there we skin up to the Fenêtre de Saleina, then descend underneath the Aiguilles Dorées.)
After crossing the Trient glacier, we pass through the Fenêtre de Chamois (2985m), from where we start skiing down to the Val d’Arpette. The descent ends 1300m further down in Champex.
A quick transfer by bus brings us to Le Chable, from where we take the cable car up to Mont Fort. A quick descent we are at the Mont-fort hut

Wednesday:

Mont-fort hut – Prafleuri hut

Elevation gain : 1000m - Descent: 800 m
Mont-Fort 2457m hut to la Chaux pass 2940m, a quick descent then Momin pass .
Then we can ski tour up to the summit of Rosablanche (3336 m).
From there, we have a beautiful ski descent down to the Prafleuri hut.

Thursday :

Cabane de Prafleuri - Cabane des Dix

Elevation gain : 700 m - Descent: 400 m
Today we ski tour up and along Lac des Dix. The terrain is quite flat, and a good sliding technique helps to preserve energy reserves needed for later.
The final Pas de Chat leading to the Cabane des Dix is right in front of your eyes.


Friday :

Cabane des Dix - Cabane des Vignettes

Elevation gain : 950 m Descent: 640 m
We start with one of the highlights of this Haute Route: The ascent of the famous Pigne d’Arolla (3730 m ) via the Mur de la Serpentine, followed by a beautiful descend leading us to the Cabane des Vignettes (3160m), which is perched on the mountain like an eagle’s nest.

Saturday :

Cabane des Vignettes - Cabane de Berthol

Elevation gain : 1 300 m Descent : 1 100 m
An early morning start sees us skiing down to Arolla, before we start heading up to the Berthol Refuge. (3311m).
The route offers a spectacular panorama of the Swiss’ most famous peaks:
Dent Blanche, the Dent d’Hérens, and, of course, the famous Matterhorn.

Sunday :

Cabane de Berthol – Zermatt

Elevation gain: 550 m Descent: 2 110
We ski tour up to the beautiful summit of Tête Blanche ( 3724 m ), which allows for amazing views of the Zermatt valley. An impressive descent down the Stocki glacier brings us to the final destination of our adventure.

From there, a bus ride will bring us back to Chamonix and to reality, filled with the memory of this beautiful high alpine world, left behind. This the end of the Chamonix Zermatt Ski Touring Haute Route !
