Introduction to Ski Touring in the Queyras

Far from the crowded Mont Blanc
Massif, the Queyras region of France still has
its authentic charm. The rolling hills in the
heart of this region are perfect for the ski
touring beginner, and it is St. Véran,
the highest village in Europe, that will serve
us as a base for our introduction course.

of 6 clients, to ensure everybody’s
safety and to allow each client to get the most
out of the camp. |
Skills
taught : |
- Ski touring
techniques.
- Evaluation of slopes and handling of risks incurred
directly with ski touring.
- How to use avalanche rescue skills (use of avalanche
transceiver, shovel and probe)
- Crevasse rescue techniques. |
Price
: |
Group of 4 clients: 350 € per perso.
Group of 5 clients: 300 € per person.
Group of 6 clients: 250 € per person.
Included in the price is the IFMGA mountain
guide fee as well as the use of safety equipment
such as harness, avalanche transceiver, shovel
and probe.
Supplement costs:
You would have to count approx. 200€
per person for the following:
- Accommodation and half board in inns and mountain
huts, beverages;
- Half-day ski pass at Ceillac;
- Lunches (Snacks, purchased before the tour,
or lunches in huts);
- IFMGA guide’s expenses that will be
shared by the group, as listed above.

Insurance: |
Please contact your insurance company to find
out if you are covered for any accidents incurred
while taking part in the off-piste ski weekend.

Clients who are not resident
in the USA or in Canada also have the possibility
to become members of the French Alpine Club,
and therefore benefit from their insurance.

Program
:

Monday: |
Meeting
at 08 :00 AM at the train station of Mt. Dauphin
for a quick brieifing and to check equipment.
Afterwards we will go offpiste skiing in the ski
area of Ceillac, to get accustomed to the skis
and ski touring boots.
During the second part of the day, we will learn
basic ski touring techniques such as preparing
the equipment, how to put on skins, how to make
a kick-turn without using too much energy, etc.
We will spend the night in the Gite Les Gabelous
in St Veran.

Tuesday: |
St. Véran –
Pic de Cascavelier – St. Véran.
Elevation gain: 676 m, Descent
: 676 m.
We will ski tour up to the beautiful summit
of Pic de Cascavelier (2576m), practising what
we have learned the day before.

Wednesday: |
St Véran - Refuge
Agne.
Elevation gain: 1 081 m Descent: 500 m.
The big day of the week: We will skin up to
the Col du Longet (2701 m). A magnificent descent
will bring us to the Agnel Refuge at 2580 m
and its hot showers !!

Thursday
: |
Agnel Refuge –
Tour du Pain de Sucre – Agnel Refuge.
Elevation gain: 660 m Descent: 660 m.
This is the most beautiful ski tour during this
week, culminating in the summit of the Pain
de Sucre (3208 m).

Friday
: |
Agnel Refuge - Pic de
Caramantran - St V éran
Elevation gain : 450 m Descent: 1025 m.
Our last day sees us ski touring up to the Pic
de Caramantran (3025 m), just on the foot of
the Col de Chamoussière. A splendid 1000m
descend will bring us back to St Véran
and the end of our Queyras adventure.

the program due to the skiers’ abilities
and weather and snow conditions.
